We need to build a quality school system that prepares our children for the future. Virginia’s K-12 education system must continue to remain in the Top-10 in the country—including our local schools. That starts with restoring discipline and respect so students arrive prepared to learn. Then we need to back our quality teachers with good pay as they are on the front lines of the future. Meanwhile, we must take liberal special interest agendas out of the classroom, including ending CRT. With all that in place, we can have accountability for school performance and better education for our children.
Virginia's agricultural sector provides over 381,000 jobs and contributes over $82 billion of our state economy. It is the economic lifeblood of the Valley and surrounding counties. But sloppy government regulations, big city liberals who think food grows at restaurants, and a world revolving around social media all conspire to risk our way of life. They may not be malicious, but they don't consider the consequences. Timmy French will speak up for agriculture and ensure government policies make sense to protect the environment and allow farming to prosper. He will champion agriculture so the next generation sees a career in the agriculture sector as one where they can succeed and have a good life.
A well-trained police force is an essential government mission and why we must fully fund our police and Sheriff departments. Our law enforcement officers are trained to protect us against dangerous criminals who must be caught, prosecuted, and sent to prison. The liberal agenda that excuses and releases violent criminals must be halted. Our police, fire and rescue personnel, many of which in our region are volunteers, are being dispatched to deal with mental health crises instead of accidents and crimes in progress. This is stretching our emergency services to the breaking point. Richmond must increase funding for mental health services to free up our officers and EMTs to do the tasks they were trained to do.
It is common sense to treat our fellow human beings with kindness and promote a culture of life. Timmy French will support pro-life laws. He also will defend individuals' religious liberty to choose how to practice their faith without government coercion or opposition.
Our nation was founded on the ideal of citizen involvement. But a whole class of special interests and career politicians have worked to seize our government. We need term limits. We need to end the ability of politicians and bureaucrats to become get-rich-quick lobbyists. We need to ensure open information is disclosed when the political system is being manipulated to benefit the powerful few.
As our world got more connected, the problems of mental health, opioid addiction, and fentanyl became too much for us to solve alone. The government has a role to play here. The politicians spent too much time wringing their hands as the crisis spiraled out of control. We need faster action. First, ensure funding and resources are available for treatment, especially in rural areas that have fewer treatment options. It has taken years for Narcan and other anti-addiction options to be made widely available. Second, we need to stop the laws the government embraced that turbocharged these modern plagues. Then when the next one comes along, we need to not sit on our hands. We need to add new long prison sentences for those distributing these deadly destructive drugs.
The Democrats want all state transportation funding to build mass transit or electric car charging stations in the suburbs. Timmy French will make sure the 1st Senate District is not forgotten in Richmond and make sure transportation funds are used to ease the congestion in our communities and help those traveling the interstate. Funding for an improved I-81 will help tackle safety and ease worsening congestion by adding a 3rd lane through most of Winchester and Frederick County, as well as improving onramps and exits. Timmy French’s #1 job will be protecting our current road funding from Democrats and their Green New Deal policies.
Timmy French is a gun owner and hunter. He will vote to defend the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. He supports maximum punishment for criminals who use a gun. He opposes so-called “red flag laws” that can take a firearm without due process.
Right now, Virginia has a budget surplus. Even after adding much-needed funding to our schools and police, money is still left over. These remaining funds should immediately be returned to the taxpayer by lowering taxes and supporting working families struggling with the inflation of everyday items like groceries.
One of the challenges of enjoying rural life is being farther away from good healthcare providers. Then the big government joined with big insurance and drug companies to create big health care, it poured resources into large population areas and neglected smaller counties. Timmy French will ensure that state law makes it easier for everyone to have access to quality local care no matter where they live. This includes the expansion of telehealth services, increased consumer protections in Virginia’s new Health Benefits Exchange Marketplace, as well as efforts to lower prescription drug costs.
Veterans’ service to our country must be honored and the promises made to them must be kept. Timmy French will support Delegate Bill Wiley’s legislation to end the taxation of military retirement income for disabled veterans. This also provides a property tax exemption for disabled military veterans and their surviving spouses.
